This is one area you will want to do it right from the start so you don’t have to go through the ugly mess of switching hosts later!
Note that I am not speaking about WordPress.com here which is rather limiting on what you can do and does not allow ads. This is referencing self hosting wordpress installs only.
Purchase a domain:
This is your first and most important step! I typically recommend GoDaddy.com as they are rather cheap to register a domain with and often run specials and discounts. (Note: I do NOT recommend them for hosting services, you can buy your domain there and redirect it to a better host for your site).
You can also purchase the domain through your host, if you choose, and avoid the name server redirect all together.
Your hosting is the core of your website, if your host goes down so does your site and so does your income! I personally recommend a few different options, they range from $10/month and up depending on what you’re looking for.
Whatever host you choose to go with you will need to register your domain URL with that account so it knows what site to connect with.
For most hosts this is pretty easy these days with scripts in the cpanel. Log in to your host cpanel (typically you will get a welcome email with the information) and look for the WordPress logo under scripts and follow the prompts on installing.
If you are with a host who requires manual installation there is going to be a few extra steps in the process. For directions on how to manually install WordPress go here. Or you are welcome to email us directly for assistance.
Once WordPress is installed you will be able to login with the credentials you received by going to yourdomain.com/wp-admin and access your dashboard directly. Here you can start playing around or jump right in to blogging!
