So you’ve started your WordPress site and need a nice theme to go with it, but which one to add and how to add it?! Follow the steps below to add new themes to your site with ease!
Installing any WordPress theme:
In your dashboard you will want to navigate to Appearances – Themes, here you will find some standard free themes offered by WordPress. By default your site will begin with the latest Twenty Fourteen, Fifteen, etc theme but there’s so much more out there
You can add a new theme by clicking “Add New” at the top of the site and search through featured, popular and more on the free themes or upload a theme directly by clicking the “Upload Theme” button and installing a purchased one or one from your desktop.
Installing a Genesis Theme:
Genesis Framework is one of the best theme platforms out there to use but the design is a bit lacking without a child theme to go with it! The Genesis Framework is constantly updated with the latest security and features, however due to these awesome updates you actually can’t hold a custom design on the base theme. This is where the child themes come in! Stay up to date with the latest and greatest and still have a custom design, the best of both wonderful worlds!
First step is to install the Genesis Framework, this is a $60 purchase from their website and required before running any child theme. Once you have the Genesis framework navigate to appearances – themes and upload the Genesis theme directly to your site.
Install Genesis Child Theme:
Once you have purchased the Genesis framework you’ll want a child theme to go with it! You can purchase one directly from their site or check out our child themes here. Then navigate to appearances – themes and upload the child theme directly to your site (note: again, the Genesis framework above is required to be installed BEFORE the child theme or the child theme will not work)
